STAFF POSITION DESCRIPTION

 POSITION: VICTIM ADVOCATE

 LOCATION: CONRAD, MT.

 PAY CATEGORY: FULL TIME

 GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF THE POSITION’S FUNCTION AND PURPOSE

 The description of the Victim Advocate position is to provide victims of domestic/sexual violence with program services in a six county service area. Be available to the Executive Director at all times when providing these services. Properly record all victim contacts and place in files. Enter all victim contacts into the state data base (PDQ). Provide trainings upon request.

 POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES: The responsibility  of Hi-Line’s Help for Abused Spouses (HLHAS) Victim Advocate will include, but are not limited to, the following:

1)      Victim Advocate will be available 8 hours a day, 5 days a week to provide victim services in an office setting, and travel to meet with victims in program service area.

2)     Victim Advocate will perform crisis intervention as needed

3)      Victim Advocate will be required to take designated on-call shifts for the 24 hour crisis line. 

4)      Prioritize victims needs and do referrals to appropriate agencies

5)      Assist the Executive Director in networking with other agencies.

6)      Provide appropriate services to each individual victims needs

         7)  Provide detailed quarterly reports to the Executive Director and the Board of Directors

         8) Other duties as assigned.

 SUPERVISION: The Victim Advocate will be responsible to HLHAS’ Executive Director, and      ultimately to the Board of Directors

 QUALIFICATIONS: The successful applicant will:

1)      Have an understanding of the dynamics surrounding domestic and sexual violence and be willing to undergo further training.

         2) Demonstrate compassion and non-judgmental behavior, and a genuine sensitivity toward victims of  domestic and sexual violence.

3)      Be able to maintain strict confidentiality in all program related business that is made available to advocate. This would include victims and volunteer relationships, and with other agencies that could become involved.

4)      Be able to work effectively under stress and make sound decisions in a crisis situation.

5)      Must work well under pressure, meet multiple and sometimes competing deadlines. The advocate shall at all times demonstrate cooperative behavior with colleagues and the Executive Director or designated Manager.

6)      Be able to work as a team member and cooperate with the Executive Director, volunteers and the communities at large.

7)      Provide trainings upon request and other duties as assigned by the Executive Director.

SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

3 years experience in crisis intervention and related college courses in domestic and sexual violence is preferred.

Applicant must possess valid driver’s license and a clean driving record. Have access to an insured vehicle, have a telephone for contact purposes and be willing to submit to and pass a background investigation.

BENEFITS:

Paid vacation and sick leave. In some instances, when funding is available HLHAS will offer some insurance benefits, however should this take place, and if funding  no longer is available employee will be contacted.

Extensive training on the issues of domestic and sexual violence and other related subjects.

Employee must understand that this position could, due to budget cuts, be eliminated or employee’s hours could be reduced to adjust for any budget restraints.
